The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract with Yan Gomes, according to sources.

Gomes, 34, hit a combined .252 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs with the Washington Nationals and Oakland Athletics this past season.

He is expected to serve as the backup to starting catcher Willson Contreras.

The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a six-year, $140 million contract with Javier Baez, according to a source.

The deal also includes an opt-out. It would be the second-largest deal in franchise history -- Prince Fielder signed a nine-year, $214 million deal with Detroit in January 2012.

Baez was a first-round pick in 2011. The shortstop had been close to signing a long-term extension with the Chicago Cubs before the 2020 season, but the pandemic put negotiations on hold.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost two big-name free agents on Monday -- Max Scherzer and Corey Seager.

Scherzer is joining the New York Mets on a three-year, $130 million deal, while Seager has agreed to join the Texas Rangers for $325 million over 10 seasons.

Though the rotation remains a priority, the Dodgers could pivot and pursue Freddie Freeman in free agency in the aftermath of Seager's departure.

The Atlanta Braves will sign Kirby Yates to a two-year, $8.25 million contract.

The reliever will earn $1 million in 2022 and $6 million in 2023. The contract has a $5.75 million team option for the 2024 season that includes a $1.25 million buyout.

Yates signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in January but did not pitch for the team this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are nearing an agreement on a one-year deal with Daniel Hudson, according to sources.

The contract for the right-handed reliever is expected to be for around $7 million.

Hudson, 34, split the 2021 season between the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals.

He was 1-2 with a 5.21 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 23 appearances for the Padres.

The San Francisco Giants are nearing an agreement on a contract with Alex Cobb, according to reports.

Cobb must pass a physical to make the deal official.

The 34-year-old would help fill the void left behind by Kevin Gausman, who signed a five-year, $110 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Shortstop Corey Seager and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a 10-year, $325 million deal, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Seager, 27, batted .295/.364/.501 with 100 home runs in 609 games from 2016 to 2021 and established himself as one of the sport's premier offensive shortstops, but he also missed extended time on multiple occasions.

Reigning AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray and the Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year, $115 million contract with an opt-out after the third season, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Ray joins a Mariners team that surprised many last season by finishing second in the American League West with a 90-72 record.

Star right-hander Max Scherzer and the New York Mets have agreed to a three-year, $130 million contract, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Scherzer can opt out of the contract after the second season of the deal, the sources said.

Robbie Ray remains unsigned, but he is still drawing plenty of attention.

The American League Cy Young winner has previously been linked to the Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants are also interested in Ray.
